COP22: the two conditions for the success of the Marrakech Conference are met

Date:

The two conditions for the success of the Marrakesh Conference are met. According to the Paris Agreement, two sine qua non conditions had to be met for the entry into force of the resolutions taken at the COP21. These conditions are: 55% of countries should ratify the Paris Agreement and the total of countries which have ratified that agreement shall emit 55% of greenhouse gas (GHG). This is now done through the filing of instruments of ratification of the European Union, 7 of its member states (Hungary, France, Slovakia, Austria, Malta, Portugal, Germany) and Nepal. The second threshold for the entry into force of the Paris Agreement thus being crossed, the COP22 will actually be that of Action. Remember, the entry into force of the Paris Agreement was the first priority of the Moroccan Presidency of COP22. The Presidency is today proud of this success and welcome the collective effort of all those who have helped accomplish it.

The President of the COP22, Salaheddine Mezouar, welcomed the success achieved today and calls on state and non-state stakeholders to Marrakech to continue this momentum, “the COP22 will undoubtedly be COP of action. Today’s move confirms this belief and demonstrates the mobilization and confidence of the international community for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. “
